If you just need a little TLC or are in need of a more specialised type of help, either because you're postnatal and suffering with a Diastasis Recti or have had a c-section, I have worked with this population since 2009. Five years ago, I discovered by chance that my fitness clients recovery rates were far superior when combined with soft tissue therapy
If you've had a hysterectomy or a c-section and are feeling out of sorts, do get in touch, as scar massage therapy can do a world of wonders to help reduce pain, improve mobility and help you feeling more 'connected' and in touch with your body again
I don't just focus on massage, I'll assess your posture, breathing and core function. I don't just address the problem area and will look at the body as a whole, to try to get to the root cause. Then together, we'll discuss a plan of action to empower you to help yourself, on whichever journey you happen to be on...
Your plan of action wouldn't be complete if we didn't talk about how you can help improve your healing with good nutrition, movement and self-massage!
SCAR MASSAGE THERAPY
Please wait until your incision has fully healed with no scab or infection
Wait until at least 2 weeks after a surgery or injury. It can be particularly useful within the first 2 years while the scar is still forming and healing...but can also have wonderful benefits to allowing the tissues to move freely in the following years
Scar massage can help:
Decrease scar tissue build-up. Excess scar tissue can make muscles stiff and weaker
Helps improve blood flow, which promotes healing and the scar's pliability
Drains excess fluid to reduce swelling and proliferation
May help regain feeling in the area and decrease numbness, tingling, soreness
Increases range of movement and the scar's flexibility. This makes movements feel less restrictive and "tight"
May help the appearance of your scar to look flatter
I use Swedish massage to relax the entire body using effleurage and petrissage
Swedish massage has also been shown to be exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility, while easing tension
It helps to decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. It also boosts the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu. These benefits are not limited to Swedish Massage but in fact will be felt with all types of massage!
I utilise deep tissue techniques, with the aim of reducing muscular tension, discomfort and pain
This method of massage isn’t restricted to sports participants, as the deep tissue massage techniques can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as:
Muscular and joint discomfort such as sprains and strains
Postural related pain
Repetitive strain injuries
Typically, I would incorporate stretching, compression, friction, soft tissue release techniques and muscle energy techniques, active movement and trigger pointing.
