If you just need a little TLC, are a runner or are in need of a more specialised type of help, either because you're postnatal and suffering with a Diastasis Recti or have had a c-section, I have worked with this population since 2009. Five years ago, I discovered by chance that my fitness clients recovery rates were far superior when combined with soft tissue therapy

If you've had a hysterectomy, c-section or lumpectomy/mastectomy or any abdominal surgery and are feeling out of sorts, do get in touch, as scar massage therapy or Manual Lymphatic Drainage can do a world of wonders to help reduce pain, improve mobility and range of movement and help you start feeling more 'connected' and in touch with your body again

I don't just focus on massage, I'll assess your posture, breathing and core function. I don't just address the problem area and will look at the body as a whole, to try to get to the root cause. Then together, we'll discuss a plan of action to empower you to help yourself, on whichever journey you happen to be on...

Your plan of action wouldn't be complete if we didn't talk about how you can help improve your healing with good nutrition, movement and self-massage!

Or contact me if you want to create a SPA in your own home to share with some friends (minimum 3 hours)

I'll bring my massage table and products and treat you to a few hours of relaxing massages, facials, manicures or pedicures

SWEDISH MASSAGE

I use Swedish massage to relax the entire body using effleurage and petrissage

Swedish massage has also been shown to be exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility, while easing tension

It helps to decreases levels of the stress hormone cortisol, as well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol. It also boosts the immune cells that may help fight colds and the flu. These benefits are not limited to Swedish Massage but in fact will be felt with all types of massage!

SCAR MASSAGE THERAPY

Please wait until your incision has fully healed with no scab or infection

Wait until at least 2 weeks after a surgery or injury. It can be particularly useful within the first 2 years while the scar is still forming and healing...but can also have wonderful benefits to allowing the tissues to move freely in the following years

Scar massage can help:

  • Decrease scar tissue build-up. Excess scar tissue can make muscles stiff and weaker

  • Helps improve blood flow, which promotes healing and the scar's pliability

  • Drains excess fluid to reduce swelling and proliferation

  • May help regain feeling in the area and decrease numbness, tingling, soreness

  • Increases range of movement and the scar's flexibility. This makes movements feel less restrictive and "tight"

  • May help the appearance of your scar to look flatter

SPORTS MASSAGE

I utilise deep tissue techniques, with the aim of reducing muscular tension, discomfort and pain

This method of massage isn’t restricted to sports participants, as the deep tissue massage techniques can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as:

  • Muscular and joint discomfort such as sprains and strains

  • Postural related pain

  • Headaches

  • Repetitive strain injuries

  • Back pain

Typically, I would incorporate stretching, compression, friction, soft tissue release techniques and muscle energy techniques, active movement and trigger pointing.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE

What Is the Lymphatic System?

The lymphatic system is composed of a series of 'lymph channels' that run throughout the body and lead back to larger lymph nodes. The job of the lymphatic system is to rid the body of toxins, waste, and unwanted materials, in addition to transporting lymph — a fluid containing white blood cells — throughout the body to help fight infection.

Regular Massage vs. Lymphatic Massage

Regular massages target the muscles, whereas lymphatic drainage massages address the skin in order to improve the efficiency of the lymphatic system. Hence a light touch needed, as going too deep will in effect override the lymphatic vessels.

This will also help to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing the client to relax and helping to reduce stress symptoms. Other benefits include reducing the effects of delayed onset muscle soreness, decreasing swelling, muscular fatigue, weakness and pain.

MLDM can benefit people who are experiencing the following:

  • lymphedema

  • fibromyalgia

  • pre/post surgeries

  • swelling or edema

  • skin disorders

  • fatigue

  • insomnia

  • stress

  • arthritis

  • migraine episodes

  • cellulite

Benefits of a Post-Op Lymphatic Massage

After surgeries, the lymphatic channels are disrupted and take about two to three months to make new connections. It has been shown that adding a series of lymphatic massages to a patient’s post-op care can benefit their recovery.

The massage technique helps to reduce swelling and improve aesthetic results by decreasing congestion of the tissue. By massaging the extra fluid containing toxins and waste towards the major lymph nodes, it is more quickly absorbed by the body and can also help to avoid infection. When there is lymphatic congestion, infection is at a much higher risk and you can have problems healing due to the swelling of tissue. That, in turn, can lead to pressure on incision lines.

It's recommended that patients who undergo surgery start with 3 to 5 massage sessions beginning 2 weeks after the procedure.

It should be noted that lymphatic drainage massages aren’t recommended for patients if they have any of the following conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure

  • History of blood clots or stroke

  • Current infection

  • Liver or kidney problems
